All voters are now required to show an accepted form of photographic identification (photo ID) to be able to vote at a polling station. This will affect all voters across the district who vote in person or by proxy. Postal voters will not be affected. Your ID can be expired, however you must still resemble the photo. You must present your original documents at the polling station.
If your name on your ID does not match what is listed on the electoral register, you may need to provide additional documentation (such as a marriage certificate) to confirm your identity.
If you do not know if you have updated the electoral register, you can re-register online on the link below or contact the elections team using the details below.
If you or someone you know doesn’t have an eligible form of photo ID, then you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate to use instead at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
You can apply online for a postal vote at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote, a proxy vote at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote and register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

You can be a Councillor for several Councils at the same time.
You can be a Councillor if you have a full-time job; by law your employer must allow you to take a reasonable amount of time off during working hours to perform your duties as a Councillor.
You do not need to belong to a political party.
You may stand for election to become a Parish Councillor if you are 18 or over on the day you submit your nomination paper and are a British, Commonwealth or European Union Citizen and at least one of the following is true:
• you are a registered local government elector in Nympsfield.
• you have resided or worked within 3 miles of the parish boundary of Nympsfield for the whole 12 months preceding the day of nominations.
• you own property in the Nympsfield area and have done so for at least the past 12 months.
To stand as a candidate, you will need to complete a nomination form. Nomination forms are available from Stroud District Council offices.
Your nomination form must show that you have been formally proposed and seconded by registered electors in the Nympsfield electoral area.
Completed nomination forms must be hand delivered to Stroud District Council and will be checked upon delivery to ensure they are correctly completed. Please check on the Stroud DC website whether an appointment is necessary.
Nomination form submission to Stroud District Council offices must be made between Tuesday 19 March 2024 and Friday 5th April 2024.
If the number of correctly completed nomination forms received by Stroud District Council by the deadline above exceeds the number of seats on the council (in the case of Nympsfield that’s 5), then there must be an election and next steps will be published accordingly.
If not, no election will take place and the names on the correctly completed nomination forms received are automatically elected.
Names nominated will be published by Tuesday April 8th 2024.
